Service Station for ships
The Darsena Mosella is situated in Sottomarina half a mile E of the island of Chioggia and immediately S of the Porto Turistico San Felice. It has 220 berths (10 for transit) for yachts up to 16 metres. Depths at the pontoons are 3.0 – 4.0 metres.
The entrance to Chioggia (which is also the southern access point to the lagoon of Venice) is between two long breakwaters extending E from the long, low spit of land that protects the lagoon from seaward. A detached, arc-shaped breakwater protects the entrance from SE and a yacht can pass either side to enter the channel. However, note that the deeper water is towards the northern breakwater. Depths in the main channel are 6.5 – 8.0 metres but only 4.0 – 5.0 towards the sides. Be sure to give the ends of the breakwaters a clearance of at least 200 metres as there is dangerous rock ballasting. To reach Darsena Mosella, pass the fort of San Felice on the S side of the entrance channel and follow the marked channel SSE past the marina of Porto Turistico San Felice for a further 100 metres to reach the pontoons.
Note: along this stretch of the Adriatic coast tidal ranges can exceed 1.0 metre at springs, so judging the tides right can make a significant difference to safe access.
Berthing assistance available on request (24 hrs). Berths are on four long and two short pontoons laid parallel to the shore. All berths are equipped with mooring posts. The marina is 100 metres away from provisions and other shops.
At Sottomarina di Chioggia near the homonymous hotel the Mosella Dock is found, which is composed of 5 floating piers perpendicular to each other. The dock’s strategic position, near the port mouth, allows boaters to easily and briefly arrive at the open sea. A few meters away from the same there are many bathing establishments equipped with beaches and the seaside for pleasant walks. The new management from the Bielo Group, since April 2009, wishes to increase and improve the already available service.
From the outer port of Chioggia turn left around the San Felice Fort, coast the Fort following opposite canal (mooring posts at starboard) and head at low speed keeping the signaled canal in order to avoid the shallows consisting of mud and sand.
