Karlovasi (Καρλόβασι) Harbor is a commercial harbor on the NW side of the island of Samos. It is located some distance from the actual town of Karlovasi. It is protected from the meltemi but has an uncomfortable a swell. You can moor stern-to on the quay. There are a few tavernas but not many stores.
Around the end of the 19th and the early part of the 20th century Karlovasi had thriving leather tanning industry.
Anchor in the harbor and moor either stern-to or bow-to. Good holding.
A Coast Guard Officer may appear directing to collect the harbor dues.
There is small marina within the harbor used mostly by local boats however arrangement can be made to moor a visiting boat on a temporary vacant berth. But the only serious marina is Samos Marina in Pythagorio.
There are no secure anchorages near Karlovasi. But one can, weather permitting, have a lunch stop in either Anchorage icon Mikro Seitani (Μικρό Σεϊτάνι) 37°46.838’N, 026°39.112’E or Anchorage icon Megalo Seitani (Μεγάλο Σεϊτάνι) 37°46.242’N, 026°38.234’E .
