Katapola is the main harbor of Amorgos. It provides good shelter from the meltemi. Anchor moor to the west quay in 3-5 m or to the south quay (leaving the ferry berth clear). The bottom is mostly sand with some rocks and weed and gives good holding. Often there is raw sewage discharge which causes an unpleasant odor, other than this Katapola is a pleasant but somewhat noisy harbor.
Coast guard recommends to anchor east of the small ferry station. Best mooring location is just in front of the coast guard office.
As another option to the harbor one can anchor off at the foot of the sandy beach just N of the harbor.
Also, there is good shelter at a cove just Anchorage icon NE of the harbor.
Anchor at 13 m. Good holding. Katapola can be easily reached from here with the dinghy.
This pretty little port is at the head of a deep bay towards the western end of the NW coast. There is space for approx. 20 yachts to tie stern-to the quay (between the 2 ferry berths). Water and power is available.
Take care with your anchor chain as the inner ferry berth is used by a small ferry which lays its anchor a good distance off.
There are several good anchorages in the bay itself.
